Installing a Wall Mounted Solar Light

Turn Off the Power
Switch off any active power before installing your wall lamp. Use an electrical tester to ensure that there is no active power supply to the wires. If the electrical tester does not light up, then there is no active power present.

Attach the Mounting Bracket
Loosen the fastening bracket from the wall lamp with a screwdriver and screw it against the wall using the screw plugs.

Connect the Wires to the Wall Lamp
Make sure there is a mains connection available in the area where you want to mount your wall lamp. Typically, there are either two or three wires to connect to the mains: a black and a blue wire, or an additional third wire if the wall lamp is earthed/grounded, which is yellow-green. Start by stripping back a little of the plastic surrounding the wires, up to 0.5 cm from the black and blue wire, and strip the earthed/ground wire as well if applicable. The connector block has two to three openings; two will be for the black and blue wires, and there may be a middle opening for the earthed wire (yellow-green). If your wall lamp is earthed, ensure you connect this wire to the middle opening; for the black and blue wires, it doesn’t matter which opening you use. Once all wires are inserted into the connector block, screw it tightly with a screwdriver and ensure that there are no loose wires.

Attach the Wall Lamp
Attach the wall lamp to the mounted bracket on the wall. Usually, you raise the light up to the mounting bracket already attached to the wall, securing it with the two screws on each side.

Insert the Light Bulb
Now that the wall lamp is fully installed, it’s time to insert a light bulb and turn the power back on. Often, no light bulb comes with the wall lamp, so it is important to find a compatible light source. You can find the right bulb for your needs on our website, and you will also see the maximum wattage required on the box the lamp arrived in. Once the power is on and the light bulb is inserted, replace the cover if required, then turn on your lamp and watch it come to life!

Attaching a Cord and Plug to a Wall Lamp
Would you like a cord and plug for your wall lamp? This can easily be done. A cord and plug can be attached to the connector block of the wall lamp, allowing the cord and plug to dangle from the back of the wall lamp so that you can plug it into a nearby socket. If you prefer the cord and plug to be discreet and fitted rather than dangling, drill a small hole where the connecting wire can fit through on the body of the wall lamp, and insert it directly onto the connector block.

How Often to Clean Wall Mounted Solar Lights

Solar lights that are not regularly maintained will not last nearly as long as those that undergo periodic cleaning, and they will not perform as well. Dirt blocks sunlight from reaching the lights’ solar panels, which continuously drains the battery because it fails to store enough energy. Therefore, if you don’t regularly clean your solar lights, you may find yourself needing to replace them prematurely out of frustration with their poor performance.

But how often do the lights need to be cleaned to keep them functioning well for years? This depends in part on where you live, but in general, cleaning should be done every one to three months.

Solar lights in damper climates tend to experience less buildup of dirt and debris than those in dry, dusty climates. If you live in an area with rainy or sufficiently damp conditions that keep dust at bay, aim to clean your solar lights every two to three months (unless they get muddy, of course). In drier regions, especially if it’s frequently windy, a monthly cleaning may be necessary. The best way to know how often to clean your lights is to simply check them periodically to see if they need attention.

Reasons Wall Mounted Solar Lights May Not Be Working

Insufficient Sunlight Exposure
Solar lights rely on sunlight to charge their batteries and power their LED bulbs. If the solar panel is not receiving adequate sunlight exposure, the battery may not charge fully, leading to reduced performance or complete failure.

Factors such as shading from nearby trees or buildings, cloudy weather, or improper positioning can limit the amount of sunlight reaching the solar panel. In regions with limited sunlight during certain seasons or times of the day, solar lights may struggle to charge effectively, resulting in diminished functionality.

Poor Solar Panel Positioning
The angle and orientation of the solar panel play a crucial role in maximizing sunlight absorption and energy conversion. If the solar panel is not positioned correctly, it may not capture enough sunlight to charge the battery efficiently.

Solar panels should ideally face south in the Northern Hemisphere (or north in the Southern Hemisphere) to receive the most sunlight throughout the day. Additionally, tilting the solar panel slightly towards the sun's trajectory can optimize energy absorption.

Obstructions such as tall buildings, vegetation, or other structures can cast shadows on the solar panel, reducing its effectiveness. Regularly check for and remove any obstructions that may interfere with sunlight exposure.

Solar Panel Damage or Degradation
Physical damage to the solar panel, such as cracks, scratches, or impacts from debris, can impair its ability to generate electricity effectively. Inspect the solar panel regularly for signs of damage and address any issues promptly.

Over time, exposure to weather elements, UV radiation, and environmental factors can degrade the efficiency of the solar panel. Dust, dirt, or debris accumulation on the panel surface can further diminish its performance.

Ensure the solar panel is clean and free of obstructions to maximize sunlight absorption. Consider applying protective coatings or treatments to prolong the lifespan of the solar panel and maintain its efficiency.

Battery Issues
The battery serves as the energy storage component in solar lights, providing power to the LED bulbs during periods of low sunlight or at night. Battery-related issues can significantly impact the functionality of solar lights.

Common battery problems include insufficient charging, degradation over time, or corrosion on the battery terminals. Ensure the battery is adequately charged, and clean the terminals regularly to maintain proper electrical connections.

Extreme temperatures, overcharging, or undercharging can also affect battery performance and longevity. Optimal battery maintenance practices, such as avoiding overexposure to sunlight or extreme temperatures, can help prolong battery life.

Solar Sensor Issues
Malfunctioning solar sensors can disrupt the automatic operation of solar lights, affecting their functionality.

Common issues include sensitivity calibration errors, misalignment, or damage from environmental factors. Problems with solar sensors may lead to inaccurate light detection and inconsistent performance of solar lights.

Solar Panel Problems
Efficiency and performance issues with solar panels can impact the charging capacity and overall functionality of solar lights.

Factors such as degradation over time, physical damage, or obstructions can affect solar panel efficiency. Improper installation or design may also contribute to inefficiencies in solar energy conversion and charging performance.
